Through my research and the development of my artworks, I encounter the image of the Holy Mary or Virgen and how it symbol has continuously lure & ensalaved different ethnicities (mostly in Latin American regions) to Christianity. In the time of Colonization religion was and still is a powerful mechanism of control and subjugation, mixing their faith with the phenotypes of the region bring; as a result this mixed-race images of virgins around the Latin community.
Inspired by the Christian decoration of stain glass and African fabric design patterns, I illustrated a Black Latinx Virgin. Duality represents a rebellion against this emptiness and searches for power and control.
